January 2005
4 weeks of Annual “Panto” presented by children of the “Montfort College of Performing Arts”. This is, as always, a sell-out to families. Also in January CAT announces the shortlist of plays from our “Writer’s Competition” that are to be staged.
February 2005
The demolition of the old Cork Arts Theatre is completed, and the foundations laid for the new theatre. The shortlisted writers start working with our directors to stage the new works.
March 2005
Six new plays from the Writer’s Competition are staged in an interim facility, the Father Mathew Hall, over a week, with 70% of seats sold. Our target audience is writers, but we are also supported by the general public. The new writers are able to observe and learn, while their script comes to life.
This being Cork's year as "European City of Culture 2005", and it being our 25th Writer's Competition, we commission individual awards, to be created by a local artist. In November 2005 we will publish two shortlisted plays - the winners of each category.
April 2005
Our Schools Shakespearean Competition is held in Deer Park School, Cork, the target audience being the pupils and families of the participating schools. This project is successful. Youth and teachers work with a professional director. As our own theatre is demolished, we are grateful to Deer Park for allowing us to use their facilities to run our Competition.
Remainder of 2005
While the Theatre is closed we concentrate on the development and re-construction of the New CAT, and on Promotion and Fundraising for the new venue both at corporate and individual membership level.
We pursue “Grant Aid” from the Arts Council.
We assess a year that has been both successful and difficult. Because of planning delays, our hopes of being in the new theatre early in 2005 to be part of Cork's “European City of Culture 2005” year are dashed. However, we do find venues to host the activities that we want most not to lose during this difficult and transitional time.
The Marketing team, along with the Executive, develop a new membership drive. Launch and mailing out take place in October. This drive is a great success with every day seeing a return.
