2006

January 2006

Jan 24th. Our official launch to the business community of Cork at The Kiln, Heineken Ireland. This is a presentation of the aims, goals and objectives of “The New Cork Arts Theatre”. We also launched our web site.

We send our new brochure to print.

Entries for the Schools Shakespearean Competition must be in.

February 2006

Scripts are due from writers, for the 26th annual competition. Scripts are handed to a team of adjudicators who meet several times during February and early March to select a shortlist. Plays that are not short listed are given to a Team of Directors, so that on “Writers Day” all writers will get the opportunity to discuss a staged production of their work.

March 2006

Workshops start with 12 schools working on a 30 minute segment of a Shakespearean play.

On March 25th, “writers day”, the shortlist of plays for production is announced. All writers get the opportunity to have their play critiqued.

April 2006

Schools Shakesperean Competition is staged at Deer Park Secondary School over a week, with 12 segments being staged. Each school receives an award for participation. Best Production in both Senior and Junior levels receive a Trophy, and both schools receive the Complete Works of Shakespeare.

Also in April, Writer's Competition short listed plays are handed out to Production Companies.

From April 2006 through to October 2006 there were no scheduled performances. During this period we worked at building relationships with writer's theatres in UK and USA, researching new works for 2007, running our writer's programme with a view to production in 2007, promoting and fund raising for the new venue, and sourcing grant aid.

September 2006

Rehearsals started on Patrick Galvin's new play.

Our NEW THEATRE opened with a new play by Patrick Galvin, set in Armagh Jail. This play ran from Nov. 7th to 18th with a cast of seven women and one man. “The Cage” was a Cork Arts Theatre production, directed by Dolores Mannion.
