Irelands Playwright Theatre
The new theatre, built on the site of the original in the heart of Cork City, opened on the 7th November 2006 with a new play
by Patrick Galvin: “The Cage”.
This purpose-built, intimate venue comes with 100 seater auditorium, fully equipped dressing rooms, rehearsal space and public bar - all on ground floor level and fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Cork Arts Theatre offers workshops to new writers. It also runs an annual Playwright’s Competition, the only one in Ireland where playwrights can see their work performed on stage. To date (since 1981) over 700 new plays have been submitted and over 140 performed. Cork Arts Theatre also arranges for the publication of a number of them.
Our facilities are available to outside production companies as well as for in-house productions.
We work with second level school groups on new youth productions, concluding with a performance by each school.
